QwilrPay: Partial Payments

With QwilrPay, you can enable partial payments directly in your Accept Block to collect either a flat rate or percentage of the overall total payment due for the Qwilr Proposal.

This guide walks you through enabling partial payments and following up with subsequent payments directly in Stripe.

What is required to setup partial payments for a Qwilr page

There are a few things that are required for QwilrPay's partial payments to be enabled. After you've setup QwilrPay, you'll need the below functions turned on for the page you're working on.

  • A Quote Block as part of your Qwilr page must be included, with a total amount due overall for this Qwilr page.
  • An Accept Block has to be included to enabled QwilrPay functionality and adjust the settings.

How to enable partial payments with QwilrPay

Step 1. From your Qwilr page, scroll to the Accept block and click on the QwilrPay icon in the top left of the Accept block.

Step 2. Your QwilrPay menu opens to the right side. There you will see the ability to enable part payment. Toggle this on and select whether you want a flat dollar amount or a percentage of your overall total.

Step 3. Enter in the part payment amount and preview the Accept button to confirm the correct amount. In the below example, we're using 50% of a $100 USD total in the quote block.

The client is now only charged 50% of the overall total on accept.

Using Stripe to charge the remaining amount of the proposal

After the initial payment is collected, the customer information is moved to your Stripe account. This will make it easier to collect the remaining payment from the customer.

Step 1. Log into your Stripe account associated with QwilrPay and either search or navigate to the customer with the remaining balance you wish to charge.

Step 2. Select the customer and in the top right of their customer page you should see the option to Create invoice. Here you will be able to add the details of your payment collection.

  • Items - this can be a manually typed in new item, or an existing item from your product catalog in Stripe.
  • Payment collection - this can be set as Request payment which lets you select the due date and sends an invoice, or if you have their payment method already you can select Autocharge customer which will charge them immediately with the payment on file.
  • Additional options - this allows you to customize your invoice/receipt templates further. More on that can be found in Stripe's Help Center.

Step 3. A preview of the invoice will show on your right screen and once items are added, you click on Review invoice in the top right corner of your screen. Here you will have some final options to select.

  • To: - this is related to who you will email the invoice directly to.
    • This also includes check boxes for Additional CC recipients, including a link to the payment page (if you are having them pay by invoice and not immediately charging them), and Scheduling a send date.
  • Finalize and Send - this is where you choose to either just finalize or finalize and send the invoice or collect the payment immediately with the payment on file.

Note: This process is similar for adding recurring subscriptions to existing customers. You can click the 3-dot menu beside the Create invoice button in Stripe and select Create subscription.

Partial Payment FAQs

Q: Can I enable part payment while disabling Require payment on accept so that payment is optional when a Qwilr page is accepted?

A: Yes. However, if the customer chooses not to pay immediately and only accepts the proposal, none of their payment information will be available to you in Stripe.

Q: Will partial payment work with recurring payments?

A: No. If partial payment is turned on, then recurring payments cannot be enabled with QwilrPay. However, you could apply a subscription via the 3-dot menu next to Create invoice and selecting Create subscription in Stripe along the same method of collecting the remaining payment directly in Stripe.
